Our bodies have the ability to regenerate themselves. platelet rich plasma therapy is a way we are harnessing the regenerative power of our bodies. Platelets that are present in everyone’s blood contain powerful growth factors that stimulate biological processes of regeneration.
We draw whole blood from a patient and concentrate the platelets using a centrifuge. The highly concentrated platelets within the blood plasma is referred to as platelet rich plasma or PRP. The PRP is then either injected or applied topically to the skin to stimulate the cells which enhances the effectiveness of treatments or acts as a treatment by itself.
We use PRP following laser treatments to stimulate skin regeneration or as a treatment for thinning hair to reactive hair follicles and aid in the bloodflow to the scalp.

Nasal SurgeriesBest Candidates for platelet rich plasma Injections
You are likely a good candidate for PRP injections if
- You are in overall good health
- You are interested in enhancing treatment results
PRP injection does not revive dead hair follicles but does rescue and rejuvenate existing ones. We will assess your hair loss and its causes during your consultation to determine if PRP injections and/or one of our other hair loss treatments are right for you.
We have found that PRP injections work best in combination with some of our other treatments. Hair loss is complex, and a combination of treatments is usually the key to achieving optimal results. Even if they have several types of hair loss treatment, our patients generally find that they can comfortably return to work the next day after visiting our office.

PRP injection is a relatively new treatment that can be used for many conditions. This is because it makes use of your own body’s ability to promote healing.
PRP injections take your own concentrated platelets from your blood and inject them into (in this case) your scalp, where they will help to heal damaged hair follicles. It is a very natural way of treating hair loss. Instead of using a foreign substance or some invasive method, your body’s own healing processes are focused on your hair follicles.
PRP is also used topically following microneedling, Dynamic Variable Depth Radio Frequency (DVDRF), and Fractional CO2 treatments to aid in the healing process and drive growth factors deep into the skin to stimulate regenerative processes in the body.
During treatment, a member of our staff will draw blood from whichever arm you are comfortable with. If you are afraid of needles, please let us know, and we will make sure you are laid in a safe position. This blood will be spun in a centrifuge and the platelets will be isolated. These platelets will be concentrated into a serum, which is the PRP that is reinjected into your scalp, or applied topically.
Altogether, this process is usually accomplished within an hour. It will take multiple PRP injection treatments for you to see some results. We will carefully schedule these treatments to maximize effectiveness and safety. PRP injections are often used with our Neograft procedures to get an effective and natural-looking hairline.
Your PRP Injection Recovery & Results
Patients often feel well enough to return to work the day after their PRP injection. You may experience some swelling at or near the injection site. You can also expect the normal side effects of a blood draw: slight fatigue, bruising, and lightheadedness. Please make sure you are well hydrated both before and after your PRP treatments.
Expect to see results gradually over 3 to 6 months. Hair follicles are often very damaged when hair loss starts becoming evident, so your damaged follicles may need multiple PRP injection treatments and time to heal. You can expect better, longer lasting results if you undergo regular maintenance treatments every 6 months after your initial round of treatments.
At Facial Aesthetic Concepts, we use the latest options to create a custom treatment for you. Request a complimentary consultation online to see how our treatments can help restore your youthful appearance or give you a healthy head of hair.
PRP FAQs
How long is a PRP session?
The length of your PRP session will depend on the surface area or areas being treated. The majority of PRP procedures we perform are finished within 45 minutes. When you schedule your treatment, we will be able to give you a more accurate estimate.
Is PRP painful?
Given that pain tolerance varies between clients, it is difficult to qualify whether or not PRP is painful. Most clients report mild to moderate discomfort when the blood is drawn. During injections, we use small needles and can apply a numbing cream to reduce the discomfort this may cause.
Are PRP treatments safe?
PRP therapy is considered safe, but as with any cosmetic or medical procedure, it does carry some risks. The most concerning side effect of PRP is the risk of an infection at the injection site. However, this is not a risk that is unique to PRP therapy.
Any procedure that involves injections or drawing blood runs a small risk of infection. Aside from this, redness and swelling at the injection site may occur.
Will I need to schedule downtime after my PRP session?
There is no mandatory downtime after getting PRP injections. However, you may want to take some time off from work and socializing for your own comfort. Since your skin may be red for up to 24 hours after treatment, taking at day or two at home may make you feel better.
There could also be a small amount of swelling, which, while likely unnoticeable to others, may be enough for you to feel better staying home. If redness or swelling concern you, consider scheduling your session on a Friday afternoon so you have the weekend to relax and recover.
Are all PRP treatments identical?
While the fundamentals should be the same, variations between providers mean that not all PRP treatments will be the same. The quality, strength and durability of treatments will change depending on the protocols used during the preparation process, the centrifuge used to process the plasma, the provider’s choice of preparation kits, if things like placental stem cells are incorporated and the experience of the staff.
How can I find the best PRP provider near me?
Knowledge and experience are the keys to a great provider. When you speak with them, listen to how they explain the process. You want someone who can get into the details but is able to explain it in a way you can understand. Also, ask for information on how often they treat clients with PRP therapy and if they have any before and after photos documenting their success.
What areas can be treated with PRP injections?
There is no safety limit on which parts of the body can be treated with PRP injections. However, when the therapy is cosmetic, it is typically used on the head, face and neck. If you have cosmetic concerns relating to another area of the body that you think could benefit from PRP treatment, let us know and we can discuss the possibility of treatment.
Who cannot get PRP injections?
Some people are not candidates for PRP therapy due to their medical history or current health conditions. Additionally, those who are pregnant are not candidates for PRP procedures. We will complete an in-depth medical survey before administering therapy to ensure it is as safe as possible for you.
