Introducing KYBELLA® — the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that contours and improves the appearance of excess chin fat or “double chin.”
KYBELLA uses deoxycholic acid — a substance that is naturally occurring in the body — to destroy fat cells. Once those fat cells are destroyed, they are unable to store or accumulate fat.
KYBELLA treatments are usually less than 30 minutes in length and since there is no downtime for most patients, you can resume your normal activities immediately. (See FAQ: “What is the downtime?” for more information.)
Patients usually experience visible results in 2 to 4 treatment sessions.

Nasal SurgeriesWhat is KYBELLA?
KYBELLA is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment for adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat (aka “submental fat”) below the chin.
The active ingredient in KYBELLA is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.
KYBELLA has been the focus of a global clinical development program involving over 20 clinical studies with more than 2,600 patients worldwide, of which over 1,600 have been treated with KYBELLA.
Best Candidates for KYBELLA
Not everyone is a candidate for KYBELLA. If you are bothered by a double chin, call Facial Aesthetic Concepts today to schedule a free consultation to help determine whether KYBELLA can help you.
How many treatments will I need?
Many patients experience visible results in 2 to 4 treatment sessions. However, not all patients are alike. During your free KYBELLA consultation at Facial Aesthetic Concepts, an assessment will be performed to determine how many sessions you will need. Up to 6 treatment sessions may be administered, spaced no less than one month apart.

Before administering KYBELLA, we will numb the area so that there should be no pain or discomfort during the treatment.
KYBELLA is injected under the chin, in and around the areas of excess fat that you would like to have reduced.
Injections themselves take only minutes to perform. Many of our patients choose to have treatments over their lunch hour or toward the end of the day, making the session very convenient even if you have a busy work schedule.
Cost
Because the number of treatments varies by patient, we recommend a KYBELLA consultation to determine your actual investment.
KYBELLA Recovery and Results
For most patients, downtime occurs most commonly after the first treatment session. You should be able to resume your normal daily activities but are likely to have some swelling in and around the treated area.
Though it is unlikely that you will experience any serious side effects, the most common are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness around the treatment area. KYBELLA’s more serious side effects include trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness. These are not all of the possible side effects of KYBELLA. To learn more about KYBELLA’s side effects, contact our office.
KYBELLA helps reduce moderate to severe fat below the chin. Results vary from patient to patient. However, 79% of people treated with Kybella had improved satisfaction with the appearance of the area beneath their chin (compares with 34% of people treated with a placebo) 12 weeks after their last treatment.
After the aesthetic response is achieved, retreatment with KYBELLA is not expected.
KYBELLA® FAQs
Does KYBELLA® hurt?
Some people report a temporary stinging or burning sensation as KYBELLA is immediately injected, along with the typical sensation of a needle prick. However, these effects typically do not last very long, and topical anesthetic may be used to help make you as comfortable as possible during your KYBELLA treatment.
What are the possible side effects of KYBELLA?
Most people experience very mild side effects, if any at all. The most common side effects include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and hardness around the area where KYBELLA was used. These tend to resolve quickly, sometimes within the same day as treatment. If they last more than a few days, let us know.
It is rare for a client to experience negative side effects from KYBELLA. However, there is the risk of serious side effects developing in a small number of cases. If you have any concerns about side effects from KYBELLA treatment, contact our office as soon as possible.
How long do KYBELLA results last?
One of the biggest benefits of using KYBELLA is that the results are very long-lasting. This is because KYBELLA destroys the fat cells in the treated area. After they are destroyed, the cells can no longer store fat. Once you have the look you love, you should not have a need for further treatment unless you gain a significant amount of weight in the future.
It is important to note that you’ll need to maintain healthy diet and exercise habits in order to prolong and optimize your KYBELLA results.
What areas can KYBELLA treat?
KYBELLA is only FDA-approved to remove fat in the submental, or under-chin, area. However, some skilled providers may also use KYBELLA to treat other small areas as well. KYBELLA is not designed to treat large areas, however, so it cannot remove fat in the abdomen, thighs or other spots with large surface areas.
How does KYBELLA compare to liposuction for double-chin treatment?
Both liposuction and KYBELLA can effectively treat a double chin. What makes KYBELLA a more appealing choice for many is that it doesn’t require anesthesia or an extensive recovery period. KYBELLA also does not leave scars and can be completed in a relatively short amount of time.
How should I prepare for KYBELLA treatment?
Any preparation you need to do before treatment will be discussed when you schedule your appointment. It is important that you discuss all your concerns with your provider in advance of your procedure. Be open about your medical history and disclose any cosmetic procedures you have had in the past, especially in the area you want to treat with KYBELLA. It is not yet clear how KYBELLA can impact a fetus or infant, so tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or might become pregnant in the near future.
While the exact preparation may vary based on your needs, you will be asked to wash your face well before your appointment to reduce the risk of infection developing. You should not take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for several days before getting KYBELLA treatment as this can cause bruising. Schedule treatment around major events, just in case bruising does occur.
