What to Expect on the Day of a Breast Lift Treatment
On the day of your breast lift in Orange County, our team will welcome you and get you settled in our state-of-the-art surgical suite. They will also review your surgical plan with you to ensure your comfort with it. Before your surgery, an anesthesiologist will administer general anesthesia to keep you comfortable during the procedure.
Once you are sedated, your surgeon will begin by removing some of the loose skin from around your breasts so that they rest at a more elevated position on your chest. Your surgeon will use the chosen technique or a combination of the following techniques when performing mastopexy:
- Lollipop lift: A circular incision is made around the areola, along with a vertical incision extending from the bottom to the lower breast crease. This approach is the most helpful for most women.
- Anchor lift: Adding a horizontal incision along the lower breast crease to the lollipop lift (hence creating an “anchor” shape) is usually the best option for women with more serious breast sagging.
- Donut lift: The Benelli lift is a less invasive technique that only requires an incision around the areola.
- Crescent lift: This is the least invasive technique, with incisions limited to the top half of the perimeter of the areola. It is generally recommended only for women with mild breast ptosis.
Once the surgery is complete, the incisions will be closed with sutures, and a compression garment will be on the area. A small tube may also be placed under the skin to drain excess fluid from the area during recovery.
Breast Lift Recovery
After surgery, a team member will monitor you to ensure that sedation wears off as expected. Patients are recommended to have a family member or a friend drive them back home.
Many women feel comfortable returning to their normal routine roughly a week after surgery, but you will need to avoid strenuous activity for several weeks. We will provide you with a comprehensive care plan for your recovery and achieving your best results.
The length of recovery varies between individuals, as everyone heals at their own rate of speed. Expect to be home and fully resting for at least 2 days after surgery. Once you are feeling up to it, you can be lightly active. After a week, you will be free to return to work, and after 6 weeks, you should return to your usual activities. Swelling and bruising can last up to 4 weeks.
