As part of our ongoing commitment to bringing you the latest treatments and technology, Facial Aesthetic Concepts is pleased to offer microneedling as one of our aesthetic treatment options. This treatment is designed to stimulate your skin’s natural ability to produce new collagen and develop healthier skin. It also allows specific topical solutions and skin care products to penetrate the deep layers of the skin for optimal rejuvenating results.
Microneedling can be used to treat active acne, acne scars, wrinkles, stretch marks, and signs of aging. This treatment can also smooth out irregularities, reduce discoloration left from previous breakouts, and stimulate collagen production. This process can be done alone or combined with other treatments to enhance the results.

Our microneedling aesthetic treatment is performed by our team of medical estheticians and medical staff who focus on your unique needs, skin type, and personal goals.
Microneedling is a non-ablative treatment that utilizes a handheld device with sterile needles to create tiny channels in your skin and stimulate collagen production. This treatment for the face takes about 45 minutes and is virtually painless with little or no downtime.
Types of Microneedling
Microneedling is available using various techniques, such as radiofrequency (RF) energy and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF). PRF treatment is a growing trend that uses growth factors in your blood to stimulate collagen production and tissue healing. RF microneedling involves a device that emits high-intensity RF energy to promote deep tissue healing and new collagen fibers.
Microneedling with PRF starts with a blood sample. Our medical provider puts the sample through a centrifuge that spins the blood to separate the four main elements: white blood cells, red blood cells, plasma and platelets. Platelet-rich plasma, which tends to have a straw-like color, contains vital healing properties that revitalize the treated tissues. One of our medical estheticians will perform microneedling to make micro-traumas in the skin and then apply PRF topically to penetrate the tissue layers and encourage cellular reproduction and collagen production. This process is sometimes called the “vampire facial” and is a popular way to restore a younger complexion and improve imperfections.
RF microneedling uses a special device that sends RF waves through the tiny needles to enhance the potential results. These needles penetrate the skin, creating micro-wounds that stimulate the body’s natural healing response to improve collagen, elastin and capillaries. Radiofrequency energy heats the skin layers with precise temperatures to promote tighter skin and collagen production without harming surrounding tissues.
Microneedling with PRF or RF microneedling enhances the procedure’s benefits for more dramatic results.
Microneedling Vs. Other Med Spa Treatments
Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment to improve various skin concerns. The procedure provides noticeable results after one session, but multiple treatments are often necessary to reach your desired results.
Other medical spa treatments such as chemical peels, facials or microdermabrasion are less intense with little to no recovery time or special care required. However, these options are often best for mild to moderate skin concerns such as early signs of aging or ongoing acne because they focus on the surface layers of the skin.
Your Microneedling Recovery & Results
After a microneedling treatment, the skin heals very quickly, usually within 1 to 2 days. A small amount of sloughing may occur post-treatment for up to 1 week, but if you are using a moisturizer, it is barely visible.
While individual results may vary, many people experience noticeable improvement after the first treatment. However, more significant results should start occurring after 2 to 3 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. To best maintain your skin and protect your investment, one of our qualified medical estheticians can assist you with an at-home skin care regimen. Using proper home care products in between treatment times is essential for protecting your skin and maximizing results.
Here at Facial Aesthetics Concepts, we offer a full line of skin care and moisturizing products. A medical esthetician or one of our professional staff members can assist you with an at-home regimen and recommend products tailored to your skin’s needs.

Microneedling FAQs
How much does microneedling cost near me?
The average cost of microneedling is around $200 to $700 per session, but the price may vary if you are pairing your microneedling with additional med spa treatments. Be sure to ask about our financing options.
How can I find the best esthetician for microneedling near me?
In order to make sure you have selected the best esthetician for you, make sure your esthetician has experience performing microneedling. They should be knowledgeable and discuss your skin’s unique needs, skin type and your personal goals. Ask to see before and after photos of other patients who received the same treatments. This can help you get a better idea of the results that can be experienced.
Does microneedling hurt?
Many people describe the sensation of microneedling as similar to the feeling of a mild sunburn. To maximize your comfort, your esthetician may apply a topical numbing cream to the skin prior to your treatment. Any discomfort you may experience should be temporary and subside shortly after the procedure. Pain medications are not typically needed.
How long will recovery take after microneedling?
Recovering from your microneedling treatment should be fairly quick. Most report that they are able to return to work or school the same day and only experience some minor irritation or inflammation for a few days.
Throughout the healing process, it’s best to avoid heavy creams or makeup products on the skin. You’ll also want to avoid exfoliation or alcohol-based products for up to a week after your treatment as this could interrupt the healing process and irritate the skin during your recovery. Light moisturizers and light powders may be okay shortly after your treatment. Ask your esthetician for recommendations.
Can microneedling be combined with other med spa treatments?
Microneedling can be combined with other procedures such as platelet rich plasma (PRP) to further enhance the results of your treatment. Platelets can promote the healing process, skin quality, and texture when applied topically to skin. When combined with microneedling, the skin is able to absorb the growth factors from PRP, which helps to further stimulate skin regeneration.
What are the risks involved with microneedling?
Microneedling is minimally invasive and a relatively safe procedure. However, here are a few risks to consider prior to your treatment. Skin irritation is the primary risk you may experience after your procedure. Swelling, discomfort in the area where you received treatment, redness, flaking of the skin, bruising, and dryness are some of the most common risks to keep in mind. Prior to your treatment, you will discuss your health history with your esthetician.
How can I prepare for my microneedling?
As you prepare for your microneedling, here’s a few things you should do:
- Discuss your expectations with your esthetician. According to your aesthetic goals, many find that 2 to 3 sessions can help them to achieve their desired look.
- Avoid heavy exfoliating, or any harsh treatments, prior to your microneedling treatment.
- Make sure to drink plenty of water as you want your skin to be as hydrated as possible to aid in the recovery process.
How Long Do Microneedling Results Last?
The longevity of microneedling results depends on the skin concern. Microneedling is often called collagen induction therapy because it stimulates your body to create more of this youthful protein for supple skin. Results may last up to five months, but it varies from person to person. The severity of the skin issue (such as deep acne scars) and your body’s response to the treatment affect how long the results last.
How Many Microneedling Treatments Do I Need?
The number of sessions required depends on your skin problem. Typically, a series of three to six microneedling treatments spaced a month apart are recommended for best results. Some patients choose to have annual microneedling sessions to maintain or improve outcomes.
How Long Does the Microneedling Procedure Take?
Plan on spending around an hour at our San Clemente, Aliso Viejo or Rancho Santa Margarita, California locations for microneedling treatment. Microneedling may take just 20 minutes, but the skin needs time to be prepared. A numbing agent is applied to reduce discomfort during microneedling, and cleansing products disinfect the skin for safe and effective treatment.
