Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a “nose job,” is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries performed in the US. It is a popular option for patients unhappy with the size or shape of their nose. In addition to the procedure’s well-known cosmetic benefits, rhinoplasty has evolved to have much more versatile applications, such as to improve nasal function after a traumatic injury, or to help with breathing problems that affect sleep and the ability to exercise.
The goal of rhinoplasty is to bring the nose into harmony and balance with the rest of the face. After all, a beautiful nose is one that does not attract the eye but instead causes the observer to focus on your eyes instead. The procedure might include removal of the nasal hump, refining the nose tip, reshaping or resizing of the nostrils, or increasing or decreasing the nose’s overall size. If combined with a septoplasty (straightening of the septum), this procedure can improve not only a patient’s self-confidence but also breathing.
In general, candidates for rhinoplasty should be done growing. Facial growth in teens and young adults, for example, can affect the form and function of the nose over time. However, rhinoplasty is possible for girls who are at least 15 or 16 years old and boys should be at least 17 or 18.
During your consultation, Dr. Brandon will discuss your goals and assess your candidacy for surgery. Facial Aesthetic Concepts uses an advanced form of 3D imaging to give patients an idea of what their nose will look like after surgery. This educational tool is extremely valuable in communicating your goals prior to surgery.

Rhinoplasty generally takes approximately 3 hours and is usually an outpatient procedure. A small incision is made across the tissue between the nostrils as well as inside the nostrils. These incisions heal very well and are barely visible. If additional cartilage is needed to augment the nose, it is frequently taken from the patient’s nasal septum. In some cases, such as revision cases, this cartilage might be taken from an ear or rib.
Following surgery, most patients experience mild to moderate discomfort that can be controlled with medication. Patients should expect to wear a cast on the outside of the nose for about a week after rhinoplasty to protect the nasal bones and cartilage. Additionally, patients should avoid strenuous activity such as jogging or swimming for two to three weeks and avoid wearing glasses for four to five weeks.
Nose surgery results can range from very subtle to very dramatic. It all depends on your existing facial anatomy and what you’re hoping to achieve. If you only want to make a minor update to the appearance of your nose, you and your surgery team can achieve that. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a much bigger change, such as removing a large bump on the nose or straightening a crooked nose, your surgeon and his team will make that happen. A carefully planned rhinoplasty can improve the look of your whole face, causing your nose to complement, not detract from, your innate good looks.
Dressings will be removed between 1 day and 1 week following surgery, depending on the extent and invasiveness of the procedure. You should be able to return to work 1 to 3 weeks after surgery with only minimal remaining evidence of surgery. Most people are cleared to resume their regular exercise return around 6 weeks after surgery. We provide you with a detailed recovery timeline and schedule follow-up visits to check your progress.
Scars from nose surgery are exceedingly small and often found on the underside of the nose (between the nostrils), which is not a very visible area. Your surgeon’s careful planning and surgical techniques will ensure this scarring is as minimal as possible.
Most patients have some congestion following nose surgery. You can also expect swelling and bruising of both your nose and the area under your eyes. This goes away in a few weeks with proper aftercare. Rarer rhinoplasty complications include risk of infection, scarring, difficulty breathing, skin discoloration, and other problems. We will provide a complete list of what to watch out for after your procedure.
The goal of a nose job, once recovery is complete, is to have not only a better-looking nose but also a better-looking face. The shape of your nose will always be different after your recovery period is complete, though it can take up to a year for your nose to reach its final shape.
While rhinoplasty is a safe procedure, it’s important that the surgery is done by an expert. In the appropriate patient, it can be a life-changing surgery. Dr. Brandon and his staff have been amazing!! I would not consider seeing anyone else for a procedure that is so specialized. The stress of the Pandemic and mask wearing had taken its toll. I thought that my skin texture, tone, and appearance was beyond repair. Dr. Brandon proved me wrong. Four weeks ago Dr. Brandon performed a Microlift/Necklift. I am still in the healing process but the results that I am seeing have already exceeded my expectations. Thank you Dr. Brandon, I already look and feel 20 years younger than my biological age!!
Lana was a joy to work with and I’m very happy about my experience here. I have been to medical offices where the staff was rude and not very welcoming or they made it difficult to work with and this was not the case at all!!! Thanks guys!
Dr. Gangnes and Dr. Bockman are both amazing doctors. Dr. Gangnes has treated my face for the last 10 years. I am 62 and I look 10 years younger. He told me 10 years ago he would do that and he did. I get so many compliments and my skin feels amazing. I had a mico lift 10 years ago. Then to follow up just recently I had a fractional laser/erbium. It helps with fine lines and any pigmentation as you age. Dr. Gangnes is a miracle surgeon! He is so genuine and does exactly what he thinks would enhance your appearance. He does not change your look but makes you SHINE with beauty in a way that I can’t describe. He opens up your eyes, gets rid of bags and that droopy skin under your jaw. It’s truly an amazing experience to go into his office and be treated so kindly by all the staff. The front desk is so nice and helpful. Danielle and Nadia are amazing estheticians. Dana, his wife and office manager is the best! She is so friendly and authentic. She is the one responsible for giving me that little push to get the surgery and stop wasting my money on all the micro dermabrasions. I was not getting the results I wanted so Dana said, “What is your goal”? That is what finally made me decide to go for the surgery. I am so glad I did. Thank you Facial Aesthetic Concepts for giving me the look I love. My skin feels like a baby’s butt and I’m so grateful.
