How much time did you spend in the sun this summer? If you are like many of the patients we see at Facial Aesthetic Concepts, you know better than to expose your skin to ultraviolet rays, but the allure of warm temperatures and poolside fun often prevails.
Sun exposure often plays a large role in premature aging of the skin. Imperfections like dark spots, rough texture and lines and wrinkles can all develop on your skin, especially after years of unprotected exposure. Now that autumn has officially arrived, it is a good time to come visit our experts to reverse some of these signs of sun damage. Some of the best treatments we offer to address these problems include:
IPL Photofacial
This non-invasive procedure administers short blasts of intense pulsed light to treat deep beneath the surface of the skin. It can break up melanin that causes hyperpigmentation and age spots, thus creating a more even skin tone. Patients can repeat this treatment multiple times (with appointments spaced roughly one month apart) to improve the results. Downtime is nonexistent for this procedure, with redness and swelling clearing up after a day or so.
Photodynamic Therapy
Our team often pairs PDT with IPL to enhance the results and further diminish sun damage. Use of this light-sensitizing agent ensures that the skin responds better to treatments like IPL to improve brown spots, lines and wrinkles and uneven skin tone. Redness and skin peeling last for about one week after PDT; it is important to avoid sun exposure during this time.
Chemical Peel
For this treatment, a professional applies a chemical solution to areas of the skin where the sun damage is most visible. The chemicals remove the outermost layer of skin. Although patients notice a burning sensation, the procedure is very safe. Once the epidermis peels off, a newer, healthier-looking layer of skin beneath is exposed.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a similar exfoliating treatment, but it is significantly gentler than chemical peel since it does not rely on chemicals. Instead, the treatment utilizes a crystal-studded handpiece that removes the epidermis, suctioning off the damaged bits of skin. Patients should see an improvement in hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and age spots.
Rejuvenate Your Skin
Even some patients with good skin care routines eventually discover signs of sun damage after a few summers’ worth of UV exposure. The good news is that non-invasive treatments can help your skin to look younger and more radiant.
