Our faces were largely hidden by masks during the pandemic. Now that the mask mandate is over and life is becoming more normal, it is time to put your best face forward. The double-board-certified plastic surgeons at Facial Aesthetic Concepts discuss various treatments to rejuvenate your face as you again show it to the world.
1. Botox
Arguably the world’s most popular form of facial rejuvenation, injectable Botox can eradicate forehead wrinkles and frown lines, as well as crow’s feet. Botox works by blocking nerve signals to muscles, so they do not contract. The result is relaxation of these facial muscles and smoothing of wrinkles. Botox can take years off the appearance of your face.
Initial results from Botox last between three and six months, after which patients can return for a refresher. With extended use, Botox effects should last longer.
2. Kybella
If excess fat beneath your chin is making you see double, Kybella can help. This non-surgical injectable treatment consists of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that can absorb and destroy fat cells. Since these cells are actually destroyed, they do not come back and gather under the chin. Fat loss appears completely natural and the entire jawline appears tighter. Most patients have four to six treatment sessions, each scheduled a few weeks apart. Side effects are minimal and there is little downtime.
3. Dermal Fillers
Injectable dermal fillers can restore volume to sunken cheeks, plump up lips and eliminate wrinkles. Many of these fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that hydrates skin. Effective immediately, results may last for a year or more before the procedure needs repeating. Specific dermal fillers are used for certain facial areas.
4. Chemical Peels
Rejuvenation is not just for wrinkles. While chemical peels can lessen the appearance of lines and wrinkles, they can also improve sun-damaged skin and minimize acne scars. A chemical peel, which varies in strength (light, medium or deep), exfoliates old, tired skin and brings forth newer and younger-looking skin. While light to medium peels should heal within a few weeks, a deep peel requires more time to recover. However, the results of a deep peel can last for years, and it is more successful at eradicating deep wrinkles.
5. Microdermabrasion
This minimally invasive procedure reinvigorates skin and skin tone. It is a safe procedure for all types of skin issues, including fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne scars and hyperpigmentation.
