Summer is when you show off more of your body. If you have stubborn pockets of fat that diet and exercise alone won’t fix, CoolSculpting can help get your body into summer shape. The double-board-certified plastic surgeons at Facial Aesthetic Concepts discuss why summer is a good time to undergo body contouring with CoolSculpting.
CoolSculpting
Because CoolSculpting is non-invasive, it is safer than liposuction. There is no need to recover from surgery.
Keep in mind that CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss treatment. It is suitable for those near or at their ideal body weight who want to reduce fat in specific treatment areas, such as their love handles. Other treatment areas include:
- Abdomen
- Back
- Buttocks
- Chin
- Hips
- Thighs
- Upper arms
Results depend on the individual. CoolSculpting is tailored to the patient’s unique needs. No two people have the same body, so no two people will have the same fat removal needs and results.
How It Works
CoolSculpting uses a fat-freezing technique known as cryolipolysis for unwanted fat reduction. It can remove between 20 and 25 percent of the fat cells in the treated area. The fat is placed between two panels that cool it to freezing. After the fat cells are killed off, they are excreted naturally through the body.
CoolSculpting can contour the type of fat closest to the skin. It does not work on the denser area of fat located deeper within the body.
The procedure lasts between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on what the patient has done. Generally, between two and three treatment sessions are required. Most people have multiple areas treated, but again, it is up the individual.
Who is a Candidate?
CoolSculpting is safe for most people, but it is contraindicated for some. Pregnant and nursing women should not undergo the procedure. Nor should anyone with a pacemaker or similar implanted device. Other contraindications include:
- Bleeding disorders
- Infection or open wound at the site
- Neuropathic disorders
The doctor will review your medical history at the consultation to determine if you are a good candidate.
Recovery Time and Results
No recovery time is necessary for CoolSculpting. You do not have to take any time off during your busy summer.
You should start seeing results within two weeks of the initial treatment. Full results become evident in three to four months. Many clients come in for additional treatments at a later date, but consuming a healthy diet and exercising regularly can make the results permanent.
Side Effects
Most people do not experience any side effects from CoolSculpting, and those are usually mild. They include:
- Bruising
- Redness
- Swelling
- Tenderness
